1950s Summer Movie Series-The Thing from Another World
The Bush Family Home State Historic Site announces a new program coming this summer. Four movies from the 1950s will be shown in the backyard of the home. This year’s theme is monster movies. All guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and snacks. Each event will be from 6:30-9:00 pm.
During the series, the dates, topics and speakers will be:
June 10 – The Thing from Another World (1951)
June 24 – Creature from The Black Lagoon (1954)
July 8 – Curse of Frankenstein (1957)
July 22 – Dracula (1958)
Activites associated with each movie will be available at each movie screening. Those include:
• An activity and craft about flying saucers using paper plates, frisbees, and a boomerang for The Thing from Another World.
• A water activity and fossil craft using air dry clay for the Creature from The Black Lagoon.
• An experiment and a craft for the Curse of Frankenstein.
• A movie poster design activity for Dracula.
Movie going was a major social event, with many people attending theaters regularly. Because tv ownership went up in the 1950s, theaters added to the experience with the introduction of cinerama, 3D, and other widescreen technologies. Even George W. Bush would ride his bike downtown Midland to see cowboy serials and science fiction movies.
“The Summer Movie Series is meant to showcase the entertainment in theaters while the Bush family lived in Midland in the 1950s,” said Site Educator Chase Kirby. “It will be fun for the whole family, young or old.”

Kat Hasty Live
The great Bob Dylan once said, “you don’t just wake up one day and decide you need to write songs.” This quote rings true for the up and comer, Kat Hasty. As a child, before she knew how to put words on paper, she was singing and writing music. Born and raised in west Texas, her upbringing pours through her songwriting in tales of desert highways and the hustle and bustle of oil towns. Laced with heartache, joy, loss and female angst, her songs are ingenious and uniquely her own. The songwriter released her first EP, “Drowning in Dreams” in 2020. Her single,
“Pretty Things” quickly rose in popularity and has taken her and her band all over the country. In her own words, “the show is a little more rock and roll than the stripped down acoustic stuff. We like to have fun.” With a new album set to release in May, this up and comer is sure to take wind this year.

Let That Sh*t Go ~ Breathwork + Reiki
Let That Sh*t Go
Breathwork + Reiki to Clear & Realign
You’ve been carrying a lot—the tension in your shoulders, the mental noise that won’t quit, the emotional weight you keep pushing down just to make it through the day.
It’s time to let that sh*t go.
Join us for a down-to-earth, soul-level reset using guided breathwork and Reiki energy healing. This isn’t about perfection or “high vibes only”—this is about making space for what’s real, moving what’s stuck, and finally exhaling all the crap you’ve been holding onto.
This is more than just a feel-good moment.
It’s a nervous system reset. A space to breathe. A chance to soften, clear emotional static, and come back to yourself.
We’ll guide you through conscious breath patterns to move stored stress, grief, or tension, followed by grounding, Reiki to calm and realign your energy field.
Let us help you feel lighter, clearer, and more like you again by providing:
+ A safe, supportive space to show up exactly as you are
+ Grounding circle + intention setting
+ Guided Breathwork to release stuck energy and emotion
+ Reiki to clear, soothe, and rebalance your system
+ Rest, integration, and time for reflection
+ No fluff. No pressure. Just real, grounded healing
Yoga mats, blankets, pillows & water will be provided.
Bring: Anything that helps you feel cozy lying down (personal items, journal, crystals—whatever feels right)
If you’re tired, overwhelmed, anxious, stuck in survival mode—or just feeling off—this is for you. You don’t need any experience with breathwork or Reiki. Just a willingness to show up, breathe, and receive.
